Magdeburg Law in Poland (XVII-XVIII century)

In this article is highlighted a spread of the Magdeburg law on polish land in the XIII-XVII century. Also, is represented a chronology providing Magdeburg law for individual polish cities and villages. Varieties of Magdeburg law – Helm’s and Lubeck’s – for receiving towns an villages on Baltic coast. Showed a peculiarities of Magdeburg law in various polish lands. Analized works of the polish labor lawyers, such as B. Hroyitsky, M. Yasker, Ya. Tuholchyk, Ya. Kirshteyn-Tserazyn, P. Scherbych in the administrative and judicial practice of polish towns and villages that used Magdeburg law. The article traced the evolution of the town law sources.Granting Magdeburg Law promoted social and economic development of cities. Residents also received personal freedom, and exempted a certain period of taxes and fees. They were not subordinated to the jurisdiction of national courts. City received a number of benefits and privileges for engaging in trade and industry. Polish cities ranging from Magdeburg Law was completed by the end of the reign of King Casimir III the Great in 1370r. The highest growth of the Magdeburg law related to the end of the XVIst. After that, the process of sequential decline of cities began, that lasted till the end of the XVIII century.
